"When Joanna Alexander left Amarillo to move to San Angelo more than a yar ago, she agreed to keep directing the Palo Duro Metro Chorus a few months longer to get it through contest.

But an award winning performance of female barbershop-style music and an invitation to the 1996 Sweet Adelines Performers Seminar in St. Louis locked her in for another year of duty.

"I was recommitted to another year to prepare for another seminar," she said.

That mean Alexander and three other San Angelo women spend 20 hours every other week just to rehearse with the Palo Duro group; half the time is spent commuting.

They leave San Angelo around 6 a.m. so Alexander can coach quartets before the regular rehearsal.  The chorus rehearses from 3 to 9 p.m. followed by a --------- (continued below)
